God and angels are spirits and in spirit bodies. Man is instead in the physical body. Man is flesh. When a person is inclined to commit a sin, he may, in his defense, quote the verse of Matthew or Mark: Mat 26:41 Watch and pray, that you don’t enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. – Paul also tells us how difficult it is to live as the spirit, would like him to: Rom 7:15 For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. – Paul continues with the problems of lust for the flesh Gal. 5:17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.”
Rom 7:15 For what I am doing, I do not understand; for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but I am doing the very thing I hate. Gal 5:17 For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.
Can the ‘lust of the flesh’ arise from mere flesh, or does it require ‘heart’ or brain? Mark answers this: 7:21-23 For from within, out of the hearts of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, sexual sins, murders, thefts, covetings, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, and foolishness. All these evil things come from within and defile the man.
