No one has ascended into heaven, except the one who descended from heaven: the Son of Man who is in heaven. (Jhn 3:13)
For centuries and centuries, most people and churches have believed, after death, to go to heaven or in Hell. Some even mainstream churches have a solid view of a space called Purgatory where the dead will have to suffer according to the degree of sins before they are let to heaven. Purgatory can torture the dead for a long time, but it can be relieved by indulgence. What does the Bible say about it?
No one has ascended into heaven… One could interpret this earthmoving statement so that it concerns the past. ‘Has ascended’ to heaven refers to the passed time. Perhaps it is possible that after this statement you could get to heaven. I do not think such an interpretation is possible. God’s purpose for the righteous to inherit the earth in the future has been uttered several times. What purpose would the resurrection have if the righteous were already in heaven? Would you then send them back to earth? I do not think so!
Mat 5:5 How blessed are those who are humble, for it is they who will inherit the earth!
Rev 5:10 You made them a kingdom and priests for our God, and they will reign on [or over] the earth.”
