The Spirit of Truth

Jhn 14:15 If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever,- 17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world can’t receive; for it doesn’t see him, neither knows him. You know him, for he lives with you, and will be in you.

– In this verse, the Holy Spirit is called by another name, the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot receive it; people are led by the “prince of this world”, i.e. Satan, even those who claim to be Christians or even believers.

Jhn 14:21 One who has my commandments, and keeps them, that person is one who loves me. One who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him, and will reveal myself to him. – By keeping the commandments of Jesus, man receives the Spirit of truth for himself and also the fruits of the Holy Spirit and a wonderful promise: … teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age. (Mat 28:20)

‘To the end of the age’, according to the Greek text heōs synteleia aiōn/αἰών. The word aiōn G165 occurs 128 times and KJV translates it according to Strong’s 71 x ever, 38 x world only 2 x age and 2 x eternal. Strong’s definions: properly, an age; by extension, perpetuity (also past); by implication, the world; specially (Jewish) a Messianic period (present or future):—age, course, eternal, (for) ever(-more), (n-)ever, (beginning of the, while the) world (began, without end).

αἰών and its derivative αἰώνιος / aiōnios (G 166) are difficult to translate. See how many options the KJV translation gives; eternal (42x), everlasting (25x), the world began (with G5550) (2x), since the world began (with G5550) (1x), forever (1x). According to Strong’s αἰώνιος has meanings such as ”without beginning and end, that which always has been and always will be, without beginning, without end, never to cease, everlasting”. Translations such as everlasting, eternal we are happy to accept if we are going to have eternal life, but if we are on the last judgment and are receiving the eternal punishment in the Lake of Fire, we will try to find another interpretation.

I am no linguist so I try to approach the matter trying to find out what is the purpose of God for mankind. These are the questions I am reflecting in the last chapter called Last Judgment.

Both the Father and the Christ are making their abode with the believer: Jhn 14:23 Jesus answered him, If anyone loves me, he will keep my word. Then my Father will love him, and we will go to him and make our home within him.

Act 5:32 We are his witnesses of these things; and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.

1 Jhn 3:24 We are His witnesses of these things; and so also is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him.

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and your neighbor as yourself.” – Loving God and Jesus is to keep their commandments. This is the most important thing. These include all behavioral instructions. The indigent were “widows and orphans” at that time, but today there are other needy ones. Obedience is manifested in works. In the works Jesus commanded to do. … faith without works is dead. (Jas 2:26)
